Summer Series Kickoff with Keynote Speaker Atasi Uppal

Our annual event to welcome our Bill Grimm Memorial Summer Law and Policy Clerks is an event for partners, supporters, and alumni will center the critical importance of public interest law and policy to advance civil rights.

This year's event featured keynote speaker Atasi Uppal, Director of the Education Justice Clinic at the East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC). Prior to joining EBCLC, Atasi worked at the National Center for Youth Law, taking part in class action litigation and policy reform on behalf of students of color and young people in the juvenile justice system. Atasi started her career as a public defender representing parents and children in child welfare and status offense proceedings.

Atasi addressed our 2023 Bill Grimm Memorial Summer Law and Policy clerks and share thoughts about how to take risks and find joy in a career in public interest law.
