National Center for Youth Law Vows To Protect The Rights Of Children & Youth
Oakland, California — In the wake of the presidential election, the National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) vows to stand in solidarity with children and youth across the nation as we work toward a nation that supports every child and youth.
During the previous Trump administration, policies and practices disproportionately harmed youth, including separating immigrant children from their families, rolling back protections for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth, and assailing autonomy and reproductive rights. NCYL urges renewed persistence and advocacy against racism, misogyny, and bigotry, to protect the rights and well-being of young people, particularly those who are vulnerable and from communities marginalized in society.
For more than 50 years, as we have fought on behalf of children against unjust policies and flawed government systems, we have seen the power of children and their extraordinary potential to build a better future. NCYL will continue fighting for that future with them.
"Whether through litigation, policy reform, or advocacy, NCYL will stand in defense of every child and youth across the country, especially those most at risk of harm,” said Shakti Belway, Executive Director of NCYL. “At the center of our strategy is our unwavering belief and worldview that centers human dignity for everyone at every age, especially children who are most vulnerable.”
“To the young people, families and communities of our country, we hear you, we see you and we care. We pledge to fight for and alongside you. No administration should arbitrarily determine who is included in society, or who is worthy or deserving of human rights and dignity, especially when it comes to children. Our national team of legal experts, policy professionals, and children’s justice advocates will persevere to hold lawmakers and government officials accountable to creating a nation in which all children and youth thrive. You deserve no less.”
The National Center for Youth Law remains committed to being a vocal and proactive force in safeguarding the rights of children and youth during the next four years and beyond so every child has the opportunity to achieve the future they envision for themselves and thrive in our rapidly-evolving society.
