Program Associate, Collaborative Responses to Commercial Sexual Exploitation

Darla Chavez Chavez is the Program Associate for the Collaborative Response to Commercial Sexual Exploitation team, which seeks to reduce the number of children and youth who experience commercial sexual exploitation and support youth who have been or are at high risk of being exploited. Darla works closely with all members of the team by providing logistical and administrative support, assisting with community engagement, and communications. She also serves as support staff for the California CSEC Action Team and Advisory Board. 

Before joining the National Center for Youth Law, Darla worked as a Released Youth Call Counselor at Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project. Her background as an immigrant helped to inform her work assisting unaccompanied immigrant minors navigate the immigration court process. She conducted legal orientations and intakes for minors and their sponsors, provided social service referrals, and created educational materials for clients. Darla graduated with a bachelor degree in Diplomacy and World Affairs from Occidental College.

Darla was born in Peru and moved to the Bay Area at the age of seven, however, she now calls Los Angeles home. During her free time she likes attending live music shows, going on hikes, or spending time with her two cats.
