Frank Figgers

Frank Figgers is a lifelong civil rights and community activist from Jackson, Mississippi. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Jackson Public Schools since 2018. He is the Program Manager of Community Outreach and Education at One Voice Inc., a nonprofit focused on voting rights and education. He has served on the board for the Young People’s Project of Jackson, as vice chairman of the board of directors of the Veterans of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement, and is a Life Member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Frank also served as election commissioner for 8 years, where he was responsible for hiring, selecting and training poll workers. He retired from the Sherwin-Williams Company as an Architectural Products Specialist, where he worked for 27 years. During and after college, Frank worked at the Jackson Human Rights Project, where he helped develop the Georgetown Liberation School, which originated as an after-school program before becoming the Black and Proud Liberation School. The school began as a first grade and proceeded to add an additional grade per year until adding a 6th grade. Then, in order to ensure children had an alternative education opportunity, they began the Black and Proud Elementary School, after applying for and eventually meeting the requirements for achieving accreditation. Frank received his BA in sociology from Tougaloo College.
